Regarding the Islamophobic perspective of many Americans, Allen offered several reasons for why American Christians might have Islamophobic sentiments. But while many of his arguments were well-made, he missed a significant point, namely that the Evangelical Christians have (theoretically) allied themselves with Israel (or what they perceive to be the present incarnation of the biblical nation of Israel. Such Evangelicals have often viewed Islamic opposition to the contemporary state of Israel as a direct affront to the people of God and all their descendants (both physical and spiritual). Therefore, Islamic opposition against Israel is viewed as an affront against Christianity just as much as it is against Judaism. This, in my view, has allowed Islamophobic sentiment to remain sharp and fresh among certain populations in the United States even when there has not been much of a direct affront to the United States by Muslim populations or states.
